Due to over population of the spiny dogfish in the Chesapeake Bay, harvesting them has become a necessity.
Their overabundance has negatively impacted the ecosystem causing a decrease in the population of other species such as flounder and rock fish.
Upon harvesting the dog sharks, we are researching new ways of utilizing the entire fish so nothing has to be discarded.
Our project focuses on expanding the market for the fins and meat while searching for new ways to recycle the remaining portions of the fish for uses such as fertilizer and bait.
